Saginaw Valley Prevails Over Walsh, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team defeated Walsh University 3-1 this afternoon (Oct. 20) by scores of 22-25, 28-26, 25-23, and 25-23. SVSU improved to 10-13 overall on the season and 5-6 in the conference after a match full of career-high performances.

The Cavaliers took the first set 25-22 before the Cardinals rebounded in the second set with a 28-26 as they staved off a Walsh comeback to knot up the match.

Saginaw Valley prevailed in the match by taking the next two sets by identical 25-23 scores to pick up the 3-1 victory.

The Cardinals were led by Chili's 'Player of the Match' junior Julia Thomas (Novi, Mich.) who posted a career-high 16 kills on 40 attempts in the winning effort. Kate Czopek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) followed with 13 kills of her own with career-highs in attacks (55) and digs (27).

Sophomore Makenzie Frodle (Fraser, Mich.) and junior Lyndsay Reynolds (Saline, Mich.) both recorded 11 kills for the Saginaw Valley offense. Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) recorded a career-high of her own with 55 assists, while freshman libero Brooke Tiller (Maumee, Ohio) posted 24 digs. Senior Sarah Robb (Novi, Mich.) added six kills and five blocks on the afternoon.

The Cardinals will return to the court on Friday (Oct. 26) when they travel to Hillsdale to battle the Chargers at 7:00 PM.
