Lady Cardinals Fall to Pioneers, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fell to Malone University 3-1 tonight (Oct. 19) by scores of 16-25, 27-25, 28-26 and 25-22. The Cardinals are now 9-13 on the season and 4-6 in the conference.

After the Pioneers jumped out to a quick 5-1 advantage, Saginaw Valley proceeded to make a charge and ultimately take the first set (25-16) thanks to a .345 hitting performance. 

In the second set, Malone pulled out a 27-25 decision to knot up the match before coming from 24-19 down in the third set to steal a 28-26 victory to go up 2-1 in the match. SVSU was unable to capitalize on their opportunities down the stretch as they dropped the fourth set and the match, 25-22.

The SVSU offense was led by Chili's 'Player of the Match' Lyndsay Reynolds (Saline, Mich.) who posted another career-high with 17 kills, seven digs, six blocks and five service aces. 

Sophomore Kate Czopek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) followed with 13 kills of her own, while adding ten digs on the evening. Makenzie Frodle (Fraser, Mich.) tacked on 11 digs as Julia Thomas tallied seven kills.

Senior setter Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) orchestrated the Cardinal offense with 45 assists as libero Brooke Tiller (Maumee, Ohio) gathered a team-high 24 digs in the loss.

The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 20) against Walsh University at 2:00 PM inside the Cardinal Gym.
