Buxton, Fitzgerald Selected to All-GLIAC First-Team

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team placed three players on All-GLIAC teams for the 2011 season as was announced by the league office.  Annie Buxton and Katie Fitzgerald were selected to the First-Team, while senior libero Laura Ward was selected to the Honorable Mention team.

Buxton, a senior outside hitter from Aurora, Ontario has had another great season for the Cardinals, recording 396 kills on 1,058 attacks in 27 matches played on the season to earn First Team All-GLIAC honors. She has posted 255 digs, 48 blocks and 41 service aces on the season up to this point. Annie also passed former Cardinal All-American Sarah Redoute for all-time kills at SVSU with 1,290.

Fitzgerald, a senior middle hitter from Whitby, Ontario has been key to Saginaw Valley's offensive attack by hitting .289 with 228 kills on the season to earn First-Team All-GLIAC honors.  She has also racked up 82 blocks and had 22 aces in 27 matches played so far this season. Katie is fourth all-time at SVSU in blocks with 365.

Ward, the senior libero from White Lake, Mich. is having a tremendous season as the defensive leader for the Cardinals and will finish her career third all-time in digs with 1,511 at Saginaw Valley. Laura has tallied 459 digs on the season to earn Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors.

The Cardinals finished the season with a school-best 15-4 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and have compiled an 18-9 overall record as they advance in postseason competition.
