Cardinals Downed by Ferris, 3-0

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University women's volleyball team was defeated today (10/1) by Ferris State University, 3-0. The Cardinals drop to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the loss, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference.

Saginaw Valley got out to a slow start and lost the first game 25-16 before bouncing back in the second game only to fall just short, 26-24. The Bulldogs closed out the Cardinals in the third and final set, 25-19.

The Cardinals were lead by senior setter Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) who earned Chili's "Player of the Match" honors with a team-high 28 assists, 7 digs and four kills. Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) recorded 12 kills and seven digs, while Becky Schroeder added six kills and four blocks. Senior libero Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had 11 digs in the match. 

The Cardinals return to action on Friday when they visit Lake Erie on Saturday (10/8). The contest is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
