UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fell to the visiting Grand Valley State University Lakers by a score of 3-0 Saturday (10/2) afternoon. The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-6 overall on the season and 4-4 in the GLIAC while the Lakers improve to 9-5 overall and 8-2 in league play.
Grand Valley jumped out-front 1-0 with a 25-19 victory in set one. The second set would be tightly-contested, as the Lakers pulled-out a 27-25 victory before ending the match with a 25-16 win in the third and final set.
The Cardinals were led in kills by Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS), who had 13. Chili's "Player of the Match" Laurel Mattson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood HS) helped anchor the defense with six digs while Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had nine. Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had a match-high 25 assists for the Cardinals.
SVSU is back in action tomorrow, October 9, as it hosts Ferris State University in another GLIAC North Division showdown.
