Cardinals Fall At Hillsdale, 3-1

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest on the road against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Hillsdale College.  The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the GLIAC while the Chargers improve to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in league play.  

The Cardinals opened the match with a 25-19 victory in the first set, as they hit at a .429 clip and held the Chargers to a .194 mark.  Hillsdale would take the second frame by the same 25-19 count before taking sets three and four by scores of 25-11 and 25-18, respectively.

Junior Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) earned Chili's "Player of the Match" honors after hitting for a .333 percentage, recording eight kills and posting six blocks on the defensive end.  Junior Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had a match-high 18 kills as well as a pair of aces and nine digs to help the Cardinal defense.  Sophomore Katie Maciejewski (Laingsburg, Mich.) also reached double-digits in kills, posting 10 on the afternoon to go along with eight digs and two blocks.  Sophomore Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had 36 assists on the afternoon while junior Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a team-high 11 digs.

After three road matches this past weekend, the Cardinals return home for a GLIAC doubleheader against Grand Valley State University on Saturday (10/2) and Ferris State University on Sunday (10/3).  Both matches this weekend will be at 2:00 pm in the Cardinal Gymnasium in SVSU's Ryder Center.
