Cards Fall At Wayne State, 3-1

DETROIT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team dropped the first match of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend triple-header to the Wayne State Warriors by a score of 3-1.  The loss drops the Cardinals to 5-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in the GLIAC while Wayne State improves to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

The Warriors jumped ahead with a 25-19 victory in the first set, and would follow that up with a 27-25 win in set number two.  SVSU bounced-back for a 25-20 win in the third set.  Wayne State would then close the match out with a 29-27 advantage in the fourth and final set.

The Cardinals were led by Chili's "Player of the Match" Katie Maciejewski (Laingsburg, Mich.), who posted 11 kills and added five digs on the defensive end.  Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) had 11 kills and Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont.) added 13 for the Cards.  Nicole Adam (Sterling Heights, Mich.) had 24 assists on the night.  Becky Schroeder (Owosso, Mich.) had seven blocks on the night.

SVSU continues play on the road with a match at Findlay Saturday (9/25) at 4:00 pm before taking-on Hillsdale Sunday (9/26) at 2:00 pm in a re-match of last year's GLIAC Championship Match.
