SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team defeated the Lake Superior State University Lakers by a score of 3-0 Friday (9/17) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up. The Cardinals improve to 4-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in the GLIAC while the Lakers drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Cardinals jumped out-front after a victory in set number one by a score of 25-23. SVSU would take the second and third sets as well, claiming the last two frames by scores of 25-20 and 27-25, respectively.
Chili's "Player of the Match" Annie Buxton had 16 kills on the night to go along with seven digs and a pair of blocks. Katie Fitzgerald had seven kills while hitting at a .600 clip and added two blocks. Laura Ward led the Cards with 11 digs on the defensive end. Sam Breault posted a match-high 32 assists for the Cardinals in the contest.
The Cardinals travel to Northwood University for a 2:00 pm match-up on Sunday, Sep. 19. The Timberwolves are currently 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league contests.
