Cardinals Defeat Dominican (N.Y.), 3-0

Saint Leo, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team claimed its first victory of the 2010 season, defeating Dominican College (N.Y.) by a score of 3-0.  The victory evens the Cardinals' record at 1-1 on the season while the Chargers fall to 1-1 as well this fall. 

SVSU jumped out front with a 25-18 victory in the first set.  The second set was a thriller, as the Cards squeaked-out a 26-24 win, and followed that with a 25-13 victory in the third set.

Senior Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) hit for a .429 percentage while posting seven kills, three blocks and a pair of digs.  Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) hit at a .385 clip for the contest with six kills, adding a pair of blocks.  Sophomore Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had 18 assists on the day while helping the Cardinals hit .321 as a squad.  Junior Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a team-high 13 digs while adding four helpers.

SVSU continues play in the 2010 Saint Leo Lion Classic tomorrow, as they take-on Pittsburg State University (Kan.) at 9:30 am before rounding-out play against West Georgia University in a noon contest.
