Volleyball Drops Season Opener At #11 Saint Leo, 3-0

Saint Leo, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a loss at #11 nationally-ranked Saint Leo University, 3-0.  The loss puts the Cards at 0-1 overall on the season while the Lions improve to 1-0.  The game was the opener of the 2010 Saint Leo Lion Classic, hosted at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla.   

The Cardinals dropped the first set by a score of 25-18 before losing the next two by scores of 25-13 and 25-16, respectively.

Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had eight kills and three aces on the offensive side, while senior Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) recorded five kills.  Sophomore setter Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had 12 assists on the evening.  Treiber and junior Becky Schroeder (Owosso, Mich./Northwood University) each had a pair of blocks defensively.  Buxton led the team with nine digs.  

SVSU continues play at the 2010 Saint Leo Lion Classic tomorrow (9/3), as they face Dominican (N.Y.) University at 2:30 pm.
