UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University volleyball team defeated the Wayne State
University Warriors by a 3-1 score on Saturday (10/3). The
Cardinals dropped the first game by a 25-23 count before taking the
next three by scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-17, respectively.
Senior Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) led the way offensively with 19
kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Annie Buxton
(Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) and junior Jessica Treiber
(Unionville, Mich./Sebewaing HS) each added 15 kills, with Treiber
also assisting on four blocks. Senior Kait Harris
(Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) recorded 55 assists in the contest
along with five kills and eight digs. Sophomore libero Laura Ward (White
Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) contributed 22 digs to the Cardinal
effort. SVSU hit at a .336 clip in the four-set victory.
The win versus the Warriors puts the Cardinals’ record at
12-5 on the season with a 7-2 mark in GLIAC play. The Warriors are
now 14-3 on the season with a 6-3 record in conference play. SVSU
will return to home next weekend when it hosts Hillsdale College
Friday (10/9) and the University of Findlay (10/10).
