UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss
Friday night with a 3-0 victory over the University of Findlay
Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10). The straight-set sweep came by scores
of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-21, respectively.
The Cardinals had many bright spots on the offensive end, as
sophomore Annie
Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) posted 10 kills and 11 digs and
senior Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) and sophomore Katie
Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) adding nine kills and
eight kills, respectively. Senior Kait Harris
(Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) recorded 18 assists in two sets of
play while freshman Sam Breault (Bad
Axe, Mich.) posted a career-high 12 assists in the winning effort.
Freshman Laurel Mattson
(Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood HS) got the start at libero, and
answered by contributing 11 digs to the Cardinal effort.
The victory pushes SVSU’s record to 13-6 on the season with
an 8-3 record in GLIAC competition. The Oilers fall to 6-14 overall
and 2-9 in the conference. The Cardinals will be in action next
weekend (10/16-17) in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament, which
will be held at the Aim High Complex in Lansing, Mich. Tournament
pairings and times of matches have yet to be determined.
