SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State University volleyball team defeated Lake Superior
State University, 3-1, on Tuesday evening (9/15) in a Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match-up.
SVSU dropped the first set, 25-23, but rebounded to take the final
three by counts of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-20. The Cardinals were led
by sophomore Annie Buxton
(Sinclair, Ont.), who posted 14 kills and 13 digs. Senior Kait Harris
(Essexville, Mich/Garber HS) had 48 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore
Laura Ward had
16 digs in the match. Three other SVSU players recorded
double-digit kills, as junior Jessica Treiber
(Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) had 11 and seniors Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) and Jaclyn Carnago
(St. Clair, Mich.) each recorded 10.
The victory improves Saginaw Valley’s record to 7-4 on the
season with a 2-1 mark in GLIAC play. The Cardinals will travel to
Ohio this weekend (9/18-19) to face Tiffin University and Ashland
University.
