LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Saginaw Valley
State volleyball team ended the weekend with a split in the final
day of matches at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational (9/5). The
Cardinals fell to #2 Cal State San Bernardino (3-0) before
rounding-out the tournament with a five-set victory over #21 Cal
State Los Angeles. SVSU fell to #7 UC San Diego (3-0) and defeated
Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0) on Friday (9/4).
In the match versus Cal State San Bernardino, senior Allison
Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) led the way with five kills
while senior Kait
Harris (Essexville, Mich / Garber HS) recorded seven assists.
In the victory over Cal State Los Angeles, Schlinkert tallied 19
kills and sophomore Katie Fitzgerald
(Whitby, Ont. / Sinclair SS) added 17. Harris recorded 53 assists
in the five-set affair.
The 2-2 record for the weekend pushes SVSU’s record to 5-3
on the season as the Cardinals return home for their next two
matches. Saginaw will host Northern Michigan University on
September 11 for a 7 pm match-up and Michigan Technological
University pays a visit on Saturday (9/12) for a 2 pm match.
