Two Volleyball Players Receive AVCA All-Midwest Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Two Saginaw Valley State University volleyball players earned 2009 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region honors.  Senior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) was named to the 2009 AVCA All-Midwest Region Team, while sophomore outside-hitter Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) was named to the honorable mention team.

This marks the second-straight year Harris has been named to the All-Midwest Region Team by the AVCA.  Kait finished her career in a Cardinal uniform with her second season in a row in which she posted over 1,000 assists.  She had a career-high 1,211 last year, and followed that up with 1,146 in 2009.  She also had 284 digs for SVSU this fall, which was the third-best on the team and added 31 aces and 28 blocks.

Buxton had an outstanding sophomore season for Saginaw, leading the team with 325 kills and a second-best 317 digs defensively while adding 42 blocks and 23 aces.

Both Harris and Buxton were named to the 2009 All-GLIAC First Team for their efforts this fall, with Harris being chosen as the conference's "Player of the Year" by the league's coaches.
