BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University senior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber) was named the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball "Player of the Year" in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
Harris led SVSU to a share of the program's first-ever GLIAC Championship, as SVSU posted a 12-4 record in GLIAC contests and a 19-8 overall record. At the setter position, Kait posted 953 assists in a total of 95 sets for an average of 10.03/set, and led the conference with 11.13/set in GLIAC matches only. Harris also posted 218 digs on the season and had 30 aces and 22 blocks. She recorded 84 kills on the season and posted a .338 attack percentage while helping the Cardinals claim the league's North Division title.
Harris led a group of five Cardinal volleyball athletes who received All-GLIAC honors. Sophomore outside hitter Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont.) joined her on the All-GLIAC First Team while senior middle hitter Jaclyn Carnago (St. Clair, Mich.) and junior outside hitter Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA) both garnered Second Team All-GLIAC honors. Senior outside hitter Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.
