Volleyball Defeats Michigan Tech In GLIAC Quarterfinals, 3-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies Wednesday night (Nov. 11) by a score of 3-1.  The Cardinals dropped the first set by a 25-22 count before rattling-off three in a row by scores of 26-24, 25-14, and 25-14. 

The Cardinals were led offensively by senior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS), who set her teammates well all evening, posting 52 assists and seven kills in the four sets as well as recording 13 digs on the defensive end.  Senior Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) had a double-double, as she had 15 kills and 11 digs while hitting .364.  Sophomore Katie Fitzgerald hit at a .423 clip, recording 15 kills as well.  Senior Jaclyn Carnago (St. Clair, Mich.) had double-digit kills in the match with 10 while adding six blocks to the defensive effort.  Sophomore Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont.) had nine kills and 15 digs on the night.  The Cardinals held Michigan Tech to a .069 hitting percentage.

The win puts the Cardinals at 20-8 overall on the season, while the Huskies close-out their season with an even 14-14 record.  SVSU has now advanced to the GLIAC Semifinals, which will be held on the campus of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.  Saginaw will square-off against Northern Michigan University in a 2:30 pm match-up. The Cardinals have gone 1-1 against the Wildcats so far this season.  Both matches went five sets, with SVSU winning the first on September 11 at home before dropping the second on October 23 in Marquette.
