HOUGHTON, Mich. - The #3 seeded Saginaw Valley
State University volleyball team made the long journey to Houghton,
Mich. to battle #2 seeded Michigan Tech and made the trip well
worth it with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Huskies tonight
(Nov. 12).
The Cardinals took the match in straight games of 25-13, 25-18 and
25-23. SVSU jumped out early in the first game, going up by as many
as 13 points before putting the 1,000 plus fans cheering the
Huskies on into awe. The tandem of Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp.,
Mich. / L’Anse Creuse HS) and Allison Schlinkert (Marysville,
Mich. / Marysville HS) led the very efficient Cardinals offensive
attack that hit .250 for the game. Redoute ended the night with 13
kills, eight digs, two blocks and an ace, while Schlinkert drove
home 11 kills, had five digs and an ace. Carmen Schacher (Flint,
Mich. / Kearsley HS) led the Cardinal defense with 20 digs and an
ace, and Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich. / Garber HS) had a very
effective night passing the ball for SVSU as she dished out 37
assists.
SVSU improves its record to 22-6 overall on the season while
Michigan Tech falls to 19-10. The Cardinal will now travel to the
campus of Grand Valley State University for their semifinal match
against Northern Michigan on Saturday (Nov. 15). The Cardinals
defeated Northern Michigan in both meetings between the teams
earlier this season.
