Cardinals Volleyball Takes Tough Win Over Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – It’s a winning weekend for the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team after the Cardinals capped a two-match stretch in less than 24 hours by beating Hillsdale College 25-23, 36-34, 27-25 on Saturday (Oct. 11).

The Cardinals defeated Findlay University on Friday night, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18.

In Saturday’s match-up against the Chargers, the Cardinals were led by senior Sarah Redoute (Clinton Township, Mich./L’Anse HS) who recorded her second double-double on the season, she had 16 kills and and 17 digs, while only committed three errors on the afternoon. On her heels, junior Jaclyn Carnago (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair HS) tallied 11 kills, while junior Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich./Marysville HS) contributed 10 kills. Junior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) tallied 47 assists.

Defensively for the Cardinals, senior Carmen Schacher (Flint, Mich./Kearsley HS) led SVSU with 20 digs, while Redoute turned in 17 digs, and freshman Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) notched six blocks.

The win boosts SVSU to 15-4 overall, and 7-4 in the GLIAC, while Hillsdale falls to 13-8 overall, and 5-6 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will return to action in the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge on Oct. 17-18 in Indianapolis, Ind.
