ALLENDALE, Mich. – It was a scary
Halloween night for the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball
team as they were defeated by No. 4 ranked Grand Valley State in
straight games Friday night, 25-22, 25-22 and 29-27.
It wasn’t all horror for the Cardinals as senior outside
hitter Sarah Redoute (Clinton Township, Mich./L’Anse HS)
provided the offense for SVSU as she led both teams with 17 kills.
She also was third in the match with a dozen digs, giving her a
third double-double in as many matches. Sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Treiber (Unionville, Mich. / Unionville-Sebewaing HS)
racked in 10 kills during the match.
Leading the Cardinals on defense, senior defensive specialist
Carmen Schacher (Flint, Mich./Kearsley HS) collected 19 digs during
the three games.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 19-6 overall, and 9-5 in the GLIAC,
while Grand Valley State moves to 24-2 overall, and remains
undefeated in the GLIAC at 13-0. The Cardinals will return to
action on the road Nov. 1 (Saturday) as they face Ferris State
University, before wrapping up the regular season against Lake
Superior State University on Nov. 7.
