ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team defeated fellow GLIAC member Michigan
Tech 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional today
(Nov. 21) by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.
The Cardinals got off to a hot start in game one going up by as
many as 10 points before closing the Huskies out by a score of
25-17. In the second game the Cardinals fell behind, but battled
back to take to take it 25-23. SVSU was led in the match by a
double-double performance by senior outside hitter Sarah Redoute
(Clinton Township, Mich.) who had 14 kills and 10 digs. Junior
setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich.) had a solid afternoon for
the Cardinals turning in another double-double with 36 assists and
11 digs. Junior middle hitter Allison Schlinkert and sophomore
middle hitter Jessica Treiber (Unionville, Mich./Unionville Se) had
their way most of the afternoon racking up combined for 17 kills
and seven digs. Senior defensive specialist Carmen Schacher (Flint,
Mich.) 16 digs in the Cardinal victory.
Saginaw Valley moves to 24-7 on the season and will advance to the
NCAA Midwest semifinals at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Nov. 22) at Grand
Valley State University to take on Northern Kentucky. The Cardinals
lost to the Norse in five games 26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25 and
12-15 on Oct. 18.
