ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team advanced to the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Championship match (Nov. 15)
for the first time in school history after beating Northern
Michigan in straight games, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-19.
Senior outside hitter, Sarah Redoute (Clinton Township, Mich.) led
the Cardinals on offense with 13 kills, and chipped in 11 digs,
while junior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich.) provided 24
assists and also contributed 11 digs. Before tonight’s match,
Redoute and Harris were selected to the First Team All GLIAC.
Senior defensive specialist Carmen Schacher (Flint, Mich.) led the
match with 20 digs. Junior outside hitter Allison Schlinkert
(Marysville, Mich.) also provided defense for SVSU by getting 11
digs in the match.
The win advances the No. 3 Cardinals to the finals against No. 1
ranked Grand Valley State, for the rivalry showdown of the season.
The showdown is set for 4:00 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 16) on host Grand
Valley’s campus.
