Women's Track & Field Competes at Northwood Open

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University outdoor track & field teams traveled to Northwood University on Saturday (Apr. 12) to compete in the Northwood Open.

On the women's side, the ladies posted many top finishes at the event.

Ola Hendler had a runner-up finish in the 100 Meter Dash, turning in a time of 13.74.

Shavonne Roberson finished first in the 400 Meter Dash, crossing the line with a time of 1:02.46. 

In the 1,500 Meter Run, the Cardinals claimed the top two spots.  Chantelle Fondren won the race with a time of 4:35.51 while teammate Emily Short finished right behind, posting a mark of 4:36.29.

SVSU claimed three of the top four spots in the 5,000 Meter Run, with Amanda Lacertosa leading the charge with a first place time of 18:15.70.  Jessica Reeves (18:38.26) and Amanda Paris (18:48.10) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Christina Micale had a top finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:23.68 and the 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team of Roberson, Kimberly Balls, Domonique Smith and Diamond Taylor claimed the event with a time of 48.26.

Anna Fochesato finished first in the high jump and the triple jump, winning the events with times of 5'7" and 35'7.75", respectively.

Emerald Joiner had three first place finishes as well, as she claimed the shot put (44'0.5"), discus throw (131'5") and the hammer throw (154'7").

Cady Sandel won the javelin throw with a distance of 110'6" as well.

The team will be back in action at the Mt. Sac Relays in California, starting April 16th.
