Joiner Improves Standing at Second to Last Chance Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - A select number of Saginaw Valley State University track and field student-athletes participated in the Second to Last Chance Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University on Friday (May 10).

This is the final week of competition in which track and field participants attempt to improve their standing on the NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying list for the upcoming outdoor national meet in Colorado.

Sophomore Emerald Joiner (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill) was the lone Cardinal to improve upon her previous provisional mark in the shot put competition. Joiner posted a distance of 46-feet 4 3/4 inches to move into 18th on the national list.

Emerald's distance was just over three feet shy of the SVSU women's outdoor record set by Mindy Ramsey in 2000.

Despite no other provo marks from the SVSU camp, Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich. / Sterling Heights) earned a runner-up finish in the men's high jump clearing 6-foot-8 inches. Sanders is currently 13th on the national qualifying list.

The NCAA will release the final list of qualifiers on Sunday (May 12) for the national meet that will be held in Pueblo, Colo. on May 23-25.
