Women Fare Well at Skoog Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley track teams competed tonight (Feb. 20) in the Skoog Open at Central Michigan University.

On the men’s side, senior Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) placed second in the shot put with a distance of 15.84 meters, while senior Joe Dugall (Clinton Twp. Mich. / Chippewa Valley HS) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.98 meters. Freshman Ryan Jayne (East Lansing, Mich.) took first for the Cardinals in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 13.44 meters.

In the 60 meter hurdles senior Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) took first with a time of 8.30. The relay team consisting of Tilmon, junior Scott Chevalier (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter HS), junior Tony Filipek (Caro, Mich. / Kingston HS), and freshman Logan Hebekeuser (Corunna, Mich.) took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:27.97. Senior Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) placed second for SVSU in the 600 meter run in a time of 1:22.60.

For the women, junior Emily Nugent (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) took home second in the weight throw with a distance of 16.09 meters, while senior Christina Ferguson (Athens, Ont. / Thousand Islands) placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 9.95 meters.

Senior Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.86. Sophomore Sjonne Mitchell (Clarkston, Mich. / Troy HS), freshman Sarah Kawiecki (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage HS), senior Ashley Morrow (Millington, Mich.), and freshman Angie Brooks (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon HS) took second place in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:11.59.

The teams are back in action on February 27 for the GLIAC Indoor Championships at the Ryder Center at 9:00 a.m.
