ALLENDALE, Mich. – The men’s and
women’s track teams of Saginaw Valley State University
performed well today (Feb. 13) at the GVSU Big Meet Day 1
Invite.
For the men, Junior Anthony Filipek (Caro, Mich. / Kingston HS)
finished fifth the 800m with a time of 1:51.87, while senior
Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) finished seventh with a time of
1:52.04, both breaking the school records and automatically
qualifying for nationals. In the one mile run, junior Ben Richards
(Goodrich, Mich.) finished third with a time of 4:14.63 and junior
Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East HS) finished fourth with
a time of 4:15.07.
Junior Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) finished eleventh with a
time of 14:38.73 in the 5000 and junior Jesse Evans (Cheboygan,
Mich.) finished 22nd with 14:51.90. Junior Josh Koglin (Kimball,
Mich. / Marysville HS) finished second and threw for a distance of
18.17 meters in the men’s weight throw.
On the women’s side, Junior Maggie Stalker (Oscoda, Mich.)
placed 16th place in the 5000 with a time of 17:25.00, giving her a
provisional qualification. Junior Emily Nugent (Benzonia, Mich. /
Benzie Central HS) placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance
of 14.89 meters.
The track teams are back in action tonight (Feb. 14) in Allendale,
Mich. at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.
