UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley men’s and women’s track teams performed well at the Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State University today (Jan. 23).

For the men, junior Scott Chavalier (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter HS) placed fourth overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.99, while freshman Jonathan Arnold (Clio, Mich.) placed 13th overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.60. Junior Anthony Filipek (Caro, Mich. /Kingston HS) finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.68, and senior Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) followed close behind to finish in second place with a time of 1:53.78.

In the one mile run junior Ben Richards (Goodrich, Mich.) finished fourth with a time of 4:19.10 while junior Derek Stone (Metamora Mich, / Lapeer East HS) finished seventh overall with a time of 4:21.07 and junior Jesse Evans (Cheboygan, Mich.) finished tenth with a time of 4:25.02. Junior Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) finished second overall in the 5000 meter run in the time of 15:02.01 and freshman Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie HS) placed 11th in a time of 15:38.21.

Senior Sam Tilmon (Romulus, Mich.) finished fourth overall in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.38. In the high jump, senior Joe Dougall (Clinton Township, Mich. / Chippewaw Valley HS) placed third overall in a height of 1.92 meters, and junior Ryan Simmons (Port Austin, Mich) placed fourth with a height of 1.87 meters. Junior Mark Badowsky (Lincoln Park, Mich.) finished tenth overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.54 meters. Senior Sean Egan (Marysville, Mich.) placed sixth overall in the shot put with a distance of 15.01 meters and junior Josh Koglin () placed third overall in the weight throw with a distance of 17.71 meters.

On the women’s side Maggie Stalker (Oscoda, Mich.) placed 11th in the 3000 meter run in 10:18.44. The Cardinals had a solid performance in the 5000 meter run having four girls finish in the top ten. Freshman Chelsea Savage (Monroe, Mich.) placed second with a time of 18:30.09, while junior Amanda Roache (Clio, Mich.) finished sixth in a time of 19:06.14. Junior Libby Robinson (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley HS) followed close behind finishing seventh in a time of 19:50.55, and freshman Jeannie Hollerbach (Grosse Point, Mich.) finished tenth with a time of 19:26.73.

Senior Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) finished second overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.12, while freshman Samantha Roberts (Bullock Creek, Mich.) finished ninth overall in a time of 9.47. Dowell also finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.37 meters.

The 4x400 relay team placed fifth overall with a time of 4:03.91. Junior Emily Nugent (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) placed ninth overall in the shot put with a distance of 12.09 meters and also placed fourth overall in the weight throw with a distance of 15.42 meters.

Both track teams will return to action when they host the Collegiate Open at 4:00 p.m in the Ryder Center.
