Cardinal Tennis Preps for GLIAC Tournament

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team earned a berth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament that is set to begin this Friday, April 21 at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan. The Cardinals are the fifth seed and will face off against the No. 4 seed Purdue Northwest in the second match of the tournament.

SVSU and PNW met back on March 17th in Indiana where the Pride won a clinch match 4-0 over the Cardinals.

Saginaw Valley State finished seventh in the team's last GLIAC tournament outing in 2021. The Cardinals lost to top-seeded Ferris State in round one and No. 5 Michigan Tech in round two before beating Ashland in the seventh-place match on the final day of the tournament.

This year's GLIAC tournament is a six-team, single-elimination tournament that will span through the entire weekend from April 21 to April 23.

Grand Valley State earned the top seed with an undefeated regular season in conference play. Wayne State got the second seed with a 6-1 showing in league play. Both the Lakers and the Warriors earn first-round byes as the top seeds. No. 3 seed, Michigan Tech (5-2 GLIAC) drew six-seeded Davenport (2-5 GLIAC) after the Panthers slipped into the final spot of the tournament after ending the year in a three-way tie with SVSU and Ferris State.
