Cardinals drop close match on the road to Pride

PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team continued Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition, falling to Purdue Northwest Friday at the Park Forest Tennis Club in Park Forest, Ill.

The Cardinals took one of three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 heading to the singles competition. Emma Charlton won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Gyselle Daza Gutierrez took her match at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Both Chelsea Dzenga (No. 3 singles) and Nicole Johnson (No. 5 singles) both dropped three-set matches, as SVSU fell 5-2.

The Cardinals contest with Davenport University scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. SVSU returns to competition at home against Michigan Tech on April 9, with the location to be determined.
