Women's Tennis falls in GLIAC Tourney to LSSU

MIDLAND -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team fell by a score of 4-1 to the Lake Superior State University Lakers on Saturday (Oct. 27) on the second day of GLIAC Tournament action. 

The Cardinals claimed the doubles point after posting wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions for a 1-0 edge. Maddie Miller and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez registered a 6-2 win at the top spot before Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell had a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. 

The Lakers would respond with a solid singles performance, winning three matches to go along with a win by default to claim the 4-1 win. 

Miller fell at No. 1 singles 6-0, 7-5 while Gao fell at No. 2 by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Gutierrez dropped her No. 4 matchup by scores of 6-2, 6-4. 

The final match credited as a loss to the Cardinals that gave LSSU the victory was a win by default at the No. 6 position. 

Up Next...

SVSU continues action on Sunday morning in the 7th place match at the Tennis Center. The Cardinals will face Ashland University at 8:15 a.m. in the contest. Saginaw Valley defeated the Eagles 5-2 earlier this season Oct. 7 on the road.
