ASHLAND, Ohio — The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis team responded on Sunday with a solid 5-2 victory at Ashland University in league action.
The Cardinals move to 4-2 overall on the 2018 fall while the Eagles fall to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in league action.
The Eagles got the single point from doubles, taking the victories at the #2 and #3 spots.
SVSU got its lone win in doubles at the top spot, as Maddie Miller and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez were dominant in their 6-1 in at #1 doubles. Taylor McLaughlin and Nicole Johnson lost in a tight match at the #3 spot, falling 7-6 (12-10).
Saginaw Valley had a stellar performance in singles action to respond, taking five of the six matchups to take the 5-2 victory.
Miller notched her second victory of the day, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles. Her doubles partner, Gutierrez, was victorious at #5 singles as well by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Joanne Gao won her #2 singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-3 and McLaughlin had a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the #3 slot.
Maya Campbell had a #4 singles win as well, posting a 6-3, 6-0 decision over her opponent.
