SAULT ST. MARIE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University tennis team fell on the first stop of their
Northern Michigan road trip today (Sept. 11) to Lake Superior State
University, 6-3.
The Cardinals were led by Yunjiao Shangguan who defeated Ingrid
Pflieger 6-3, becoming the first #1 single player for SVSU to win
in the Upper Peninsula since 2003. She also picked up a win at #1
double when she teamed up with Debra Hammond for an 8-4 victory.
The Cardinals other victory came when Cortney Heileman defeated her
opponent 6-2, 7-5.
With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 0-2 overall on the season
and 0-2 in the GLIAC, while Lake Superior State improves to 2-0 on
the season and 1-0 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will return to the
court on Saturday (Sept. 12) when the travel to Michigan Tech for
an 11:00 am match.
