Three Cardinals earn D2CCA All-Midwest Region honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association announced their All-Regional selections for women's soccer on Tuesday morning. Saginaw Valley State University had three student-athletes earn Second Team All-Midwest Region honors. The D2CCA Player of the Year award and All-Region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors.  

Olivia Argeros was named the Second Team All-Region goalkeeper. The senior from Oakland Township, Mich., has established herself as one of the best goalies in SVSU program history, as she racked up a school-record 12 shutouts, and recorded 94 saves this season. She has played in every game for the Cardinals this year and also was named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC

Fellow senior Amy Babon earned Second Team All-Region honors as well. The Livonia, Mich., native scored eight goals for the Cardinals this season and also had five assists. Babon was named Second Team All-GLIAC as well after posting a career-high 21 points this season in 22 games played. 

Stephanie Strong was named Second Team All-Region after a stellar freshman campaign that also saw her earn GLIAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC honors. Strong has 14 goals, a new program record for goals scored in a season. The native of Howell, Mich., has posted 30 points this season and has appeared in every game for SVSU. 

The Cardinals continue to play in the 2021 NCAA DII National Tournament as SVSU travels to Grand Valley State University to take on the Lakers in Midwest Regional Final at 2 pm on Friday, Dec. 3 in Allendale, Mich.
