Two Cardinals Earn 2018 United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region Team Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two SVSU Women's Soccer student-athletes earned 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's All-Midwest Region Second following their impeccable performances during the 2018 season. 

Molly Vanderhoff was named the the Second-Team as a midfielder while Valentina Giambanco earned Second-Team honors at the forward position. 

Vanderhoff earns her third career all-region accolade after she was named last season to the Third-Team by the United Soccer Coaches and was named the the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team in the 2018 campaign. She led the team in 2018 with 26 points, registering team-highs with nine goals and eight assists. She tied for 5th in the GLIAC in goals and third in assists. Vanderhoff had three game-winning goals in the 2018 campaign.  

Giambanco posted her second all-region honor, after clinching a spot on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region Second-Team earlier this year. She matched Vanderhoff's nine goals and added six assists, racking-up 24 points. Her nine goals tied for 5th in the league as well and she was fourth with 70 total shots. She earned one game-winner out of her nine goals during her junior year campaign. 

The Cardinals competed in the 2018 NCAA Division II postseason tournament for the third time in program history, falling to Walsh University in the opening round. Saginaw Valley finished 2018 with an overall record of 12-4-4. The team's 12 wins are the second most in program history and their 46 goals and 10 shutouts were new program bests as well.
