GLIAC — Four Saginaw Valley State University Women's Soccer student-athletes were named All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) following postseason balloting conducted by the league's head coaches in conjunction with the annual league tournament.
Junior Valentina Giambanco was selected to the All-GLIAC First Team as a forward for the Cardinals. Giambanco has posted nine goals and six assists so far in the 2018 campaign, topping her sophomore year where she produced seven goals. One of her goals was a game-winner for the Cards against Purdue Northwest on Sept. 21. Giambanco is currently tied for third in the GLIAC for total goals as well.
Junior Molly Vanderhoff was selected to the All-GLIAC First Team as a midfielder for the second year in a row. Vanderhoff has notched nine goals so far this season and eight assists. She is leading the Cards in assists currently and is ranked third overall in the GLIAC. Also, Vanderhoff is tied for the top slot in goals with Giambanco at SVSU and is tied for third in total goals for the conference. Three of Vanderhoff's goals this season were game-winners for the Cardinals.
Junior defender Jennifer Muana held down the back line for the third year in a row, earning back-to-back-to-back All-GLIAC accolades. Muana was named All-GLIAC Second Team as a defender, leading the team to the nine shutouts this season, which is a program record. She added one goal this season and an assist. Last season she recorded three goals from the back line and was named to the All-GLIAC First-Team squad.
Senior Lindsay Stroebel earned her first ever GLIAC Honorable-Mention accolade after a breakout senior season for the Cardinals. Stroebel posted six goals this season, which three were game-winners. She added two assists as well, putting herself at 14 points this season.
The Lady Cards finished third in GLIAC regular season, earning a bid into the GLIAC Tournament that began earlier this week. The Cardinals are currently 12-3-3 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play after defeating Parkside 4-nil at home for their quarterfinal victory in the GLIAC tournament. Saginaw Valley will take on Ferris State at Grand Valley State for the GLIAC semifinals beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 2).
