Lady Cardinals Fall at Home to Wildcats in Overtime, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU women's soccer team hosted the Northern Michigan University Wildcats in a GLIAC contest on Sunday (Oct. 9) afternoon at Braddock Field. The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead but the Wildcats would knot the score at 1-1 near the end of regulation and won the game 2-1 after scoring just 2:33 into the first overtime period.

SVSU led by a 7-6 margin in first half shots, putting two on goal compared to Northern Michigan's one. Neither team would get on the board through the opening 45 minutes of play.

The Cards got on the board at the 56' mark when Alexis Hilliard scored off a feed from Amanda Minissale for the 1-0 lead.

NMU knotted the score at 1-1 when Allyssa Milam found the back of the net at the 74' point.

The score would stay there through regulation despite SV getting-off 13 second half shots in comparison to the Wildcats' four.

The Wildcats got a goal early in the first overtime period, as Casey Durand scored off a corner kick with 92:33 showing on the clock, securing the 2-1 victory for the visitors.

  • Saginaw Valley doubled-up Northern Michigan in total shots, 22-11 and put 10 shots on goal compared to the Wildcats' four.

  • Claire Spleth (8-4-1) took the loss in net, making two saves in her 92:33 in net.
