ASHLAND, Ohio - Playing on the road for the third straight match, the SVSU women's soccer team payed a visit to Ashland University in a GLIAC matchup on Sunday afternoon. After the Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead, the Eagles notched a pair of second half goals and were able to close out for a 2-1 victory.
SVSU had the first goal of the contest, as Ashley Henderson scored at the 25:20 marker of the first half to make the score 1-0. It was her sixth goal of the season.
That 1-0 lead held true for Saginaw Valley into halftime and until roughly eight minutes into the second half when Ashland's Kelsey McKernan evened things up at 1-1 with a score at the 53:47 mark.
The Eagles added a second goal another eight minutes into the match when Morgan Bittengle found a loose ball and knocked it in for a 2-1 lead.
That's what the score would remain as the clock ran out, with the Eagles improving to 7-0-0 with the victory and 4-0-0 in GLIAC play. The Lady Cardinals fall to 3-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in league play with the loss.
Saginaw Valley returns home for a matchup with Grand Valley State Friday (Oct. 2) in a 1:00 p.m. GLIAC contest. The two teams met this past Tuesday with the Lakers pulling out a non-conference victory.
