PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The SVSU women's soccer team traveled for a Friday morning kick-off contest with the Lake Erie Storm in GLIAC action. The Lady Cardinals got on the board early but couldn't overcome a pair of Storm goals, one coming late, and the home team claimed a 2-1 league victory.

Ashley Henderson scored the opening goal of the game just 4:24 into the contest to give the visitors the early 1-0 advantage.

Lake Erie's Elizabeth Roesch would add a goal at the 37:56 marker to draw the score even at 1-1, which is what the count would be heading into the halftime break.

SVSU fired-off nine shots in the opening 45 minutes of action, six of those being put on net.

The second half was scoreless until there was under five minutes remaining. That's when the Storm's Aleeya Clemons scored off a feed from Roesch to give the home squad the 2-1 lead.

The Lady Cards had a couple late chances, including a shot with less than four minutes remaining by Henderson that Lake Erie's Marissa Brannon made a save on, one of her 10 saves of the match. That preserved the 2-1 victory for the Storm.

SV out-shot the Storm by a 15-10 margin for the entire match, with 11 of the 15 shots being put on goal.

Saginaw Valley falls to 3-4 overall with a 1-2 record in GLIAC play while the Storm improves to 2-5 with a 1-2 mark in league play. The Lady Cardinals continue on to play Ashland University on Sunday (Sep. 27) in another GLIAC battle, this one with a noon start time.
