Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at GVSU

Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at GVSU

ALLENDALE - Coming on the heels of its highest offensive output in nine years, the SVSU women's soccer team had a tough task on Tuesday night as it traveled to play the #10 Grand Valley State University Lakers in a pivotal non-league contest. The Lakers got out to an early lead in the game and never looked back, notching a 6-1 home victory.

Grand Valley scored three goals within the first 10:10 of the game to take the 3-0 advantage.

Shelby Watts responded at the 22:01 marker with a header goal off a Presley Tibbetts free kick to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Lakers' Marti Corby then added her third goal of the match at the 36:19 mark to push the lead out to 4-1, which is what the scoreboard would show heading into the break.

GVSU would score another goal early in the second frame and one late in the match to make the score 6-1, closing out for the five-goal victory.

Saginaw Valley (3-3) continues on the road this weekend, as the Lady Cardinals play at Lake Erie College Friday (Sep. 25) in an 11:00 a.m. match before traveling to play at Ashland on Sunday (Sep. 27) at noon.
