Lady Cardinals Fall in Final Seconds at Lewis, 1-0

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team hit the road for the opening match of the 2015 season, playing the Lewis University Flyers in a non-conference regional tilt on Friday evening. After both teams were scoreless through the first 89 minutes of play, the Flyers got a goal with 15 seconds left to claim a 1-0 victory over the Lady Cardinals.

SVSU out-shot Lewis in the opening 45 minutes of play by a 10-7 count, putting six of those shots on goal. The Cardinals had a couple of shots on goal within the final 10 minutes of the period but they didn't find the back of the net.

Each team put four shots towards goal in the second half of play with two on goal. It wasn't until the final 15 seconds of play when Lewis broke the silence with a goal by Maggie Moran for the 1-0 lead.

SVSU's Stefanie Klug had a scoring opportunity with a shot on goal just a minute prior to the goal but the shot was stopped by the Flyer goalkeeper.

Lewis was able to close out the one-goal victory in the final seconds.

Ashley Henderson had a match-high five shots, two of those being on goal. Klug had two shots on goal as well for the Cards. Claire Spleth (0-1) had five saves on six shots in goal for SVSU.
