SOMERS, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team concluded its remarkable 2014 season on Sunday (11/16) afternoon, as the Lady Cardinals fell to the top-seeded University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 2-0 in the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional Semifinals. 

The game was played at the home field of the Rangers, where they are now 44-1-7 over their last 52 games at Wood Road Field.

The Rangers put the pressure on the Cardinal defense in the early stages of the game.  Parkside put two shots on goal and one off the post in the first five minutes of the contest.  Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Spleth made both saves to keep the game scoreless.

SVSU started applying pressure themselves around the 25 minute mark as the Lady Cards fired-off three shots on goal in the next four minutes but could not get anything on the board against the nation's third best goals against average.

The first half came to a conclusion with the score still tied, 0-0.  The Rangers out-shot the Cardinals 12-4, but only 4-3 in the shots on goal category.  Spleth made four saves between the posts in the first 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless.

The scoreless tie came to an end at the 52:13 mark of the second half.  Spleth made a pair of saves but a loose ball in front of the net led to a Ranger goal to give Parkside a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Cards had a couple of chances to tie the game but could not find the back of the net.  The Rangers added another goal at the 82:47 marker to push their lead up to 2-0.  Parkside held on the rest of the game for the 2-0 victory.

Spleth took the loss in the net while making nine saves in the contest. 

Saginaw Valley concludes the season with an overall record of 11-4-3 while UW-Parkside improves to 18-0-3 overall with the victory and advance to the Midwest Regional Finals where it will host the Grand Valley State University Lakers.  The Lady Cards will lose six seniors to graduation from this year's class after claiming the program's first-ever NCAA victory Friday over Ohio Dominican.
