Spleth Headlines SVSU Women's Soccer All-GLIAC Honorees

BAY CITY - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team had several players recieve All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recognition for their performances during the 2014 season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Spleth was named the 2014 GLIAC Women's Soccer "Goalkeeper of the Year."   Spleth compiled a record of 10-3-3 in her first year between the posts for the Cardinals.  She played every minute in net while recording eight shutouts in 16 games.  The sophomore finished with a .856 save percentage and allowed only 0.84 goals a game.  The Indianapolis native was named to the All-GLIAC First Team as well.

Joining Spleth on the All-GLIAC First Team was junior Presley Tibbetts.  The Grandville, Michigan native played in and started all 16 games this year from the midfield position.  Tibbetts scored one goal and recorded seven assists during her junior campaign.  Last year, she was named to the 2013 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team.

Sophomore Ashley Henderson and senior Shelby Thompson were named to the 2014 All-GLIAC Second Team.  Henderson scored a team-high eight goals while playing in all 16 games at the forward position.  The sophomore scored three game-winners.  Thompson played in 14 games for SVSU from the defense position and helped the Lady Cards allow 0.64 goals per game during the conference season.  

Shelby Watts was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.  Watts scored four goals, including two game-winners and recorded two assists for the Cardinals in 16 games this year.

Saginaw Valley finished fourth in the GLIAC this year with a conference record of 8-2-2.  SVSU lost to the Ashland Eagles in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (11/4).  The Cardinals will wait for the releasing of the NCAA Division II women's soccer bracket to see if their season will continue.
