UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to the Ashland University Eagles by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon (11/4) at Braddock Field in the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Cardinals struck first in the contest at the 25:23 mark of the first half to take a 1-0 lead.  Sophomore Shelby Watts used a centering pass from Presley Tibbetts to score her fourth goal of the season.

The Eagles answered just 16 seconds later as Morgan Bittengle headed in a pass past SVSU goalkeeper Claire Spleth to tie the game, 1-1.  Bittengle would add another goal roughly three minutes later to give Ashland a 2-1 lead.  The Eagles would head to the halftime break holding onto that one goal lead.

Ashland would take a 4-1 lead after two goals in the second half by Bittengle and Alexandra Manley.  

SVSU kept battling though, as the Lady Cards would cut the lead to 4-2 at the 80:54 mark on Ashley Henderson's eighth goal of the season.  Stefanie Klug assisted on the goal.

The Eagles scored another goal in the final minute of the game to claim a 5-2 victory.

Spleth took the loss in net for the Cards, making three saves in the contest.

Saginaw Valley's record drops to 10-3-3 while Ashland improves its record to 12-6-0 with the victory.  The Eagles advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday, where they face the top-seeded Ohio Dominican University Panthers.

SVSU will wait for the releasing of the NCAA Division II women's soccer bracket to see if its season will continue.  The Lady Cardinals were third in the Midwest Region in last week's rankings and a new set of rankings will be released Wednesday (11/5).  The national tournament will have a field of 48 teams.
