TIFFIN, Ohio – The 21st nationally-ranked Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated the Tiffin Dragons on Friday (9/26) by a final score of 3-0.

The first half saw excellent defensive play from both the Cardinals and Dragons, as there were only a total of three shots on goal in the period.  

SVSU's offense would pick it up in the second half as the Cards were finally able to get on the board.  Senior Olivia Perrin led the charge, as she scored two goals.  The first goal came off the head of a Tiffin defender at the 67:05 mark, while the second would come at the 70:40 mark.  Freshman Stefanie Klug assisted on the second goal, as Perrin was able to receive a pass from a corner kick and found the corner of the net.  The goals were Perrin's second and third of the season.

The Cardinals would add another goal and push their lead to 3-0 late in the second half.  Sophomore Ashley Henderson scored her third goal of the season at the 81:44 mark as she put back a rebound off her own shot.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Spleth would continue her stellar play in net, as she did not allow a goal and made three saves on the day.  She remains unbeaten and now has four shutouts in her first six matches as a Cardinal.

"Another strong team effort from the girls. We started a little slow but picked it back up after the interval," said SVSU head coach Michael O'Neill.  "Our quality really shone through towards the end of the game. It was tough to break Tiffin down and we had to stay patient. 
3 late goals got the job done."

The win keeps SVSU unbeaten this season, as their record improves to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the GLIAC.  The Dragons fall to 1-6-0 overall and 0-1-0 in GLIAC play.  The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (9/28) when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers at 12:00 pm.  The Panthers are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.
