#22 Cardinals Tie with Bulldogs on the Road, 1-1

BIG RAPIDS - The nationally 22nd-ranked Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team tied the Ferris State Bulldogs, 1-1 in double-overtime on Sunday afternoon (9/14) at Ferris State's FSU Soccer Field.

The match-up was between a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents, however it did not count towards the league standings.

Senior forward Olivia Perrin scored the first goal in for the Lady Cards, as she used a pass from junior Presley Tibbetts to find the back of the net.  The goal, coming 30:53 into the game, gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.  The half would only see one more shot on goal, as the teams headed into the half with SVSU leading.

The score would remain 1-0 until the final minutes of the game.  Ferris State junior forward Nichole Boehnke scored the first goal allowed by SVSU this season with only 2:11 remaining in the contest.  The Cardinals and Bulldogs would remain deadlocked at 1-1 as the game headed into overtime.

The Cards made a bid for the game-winner in the first overtime, as Maddie Haustein landed a shot on goal.  Both teams played excellent defense in the overtime sessions.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Spleth was stellar in net again for the Cards, as she made 12 saves on the afternoon.  The Bulldogs out-shot the Cardinals by a 27-16 margin.

The tie puts the Cardinals at 2-0-1 on the season to remain unbeaten while the Bulldogs are 0-2-1 for 2014.  Saginaw Valley continues its season on Friday (9/19) as they hit the road a GLIAC matchup against the Malone Pioneers at 2 pm.  SVSU's home GLIAC opener will be next Sunday (9/21) against GLIAC rival Northwood at SVSU's Braddock Field at noon.
