PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The SVSU Cardinal women's soccer team fell on the road at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Lake Erie College Friday (Oct. 18) by a score of 2-1.
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 17:43 into the contest, as freshman Ashley Henderson used a Jaclyn Zembrodt feed to notch her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The assist was Zembrodt's first-career point in a Cardinal uniform as well.
That lead would hold true for SVSU through halftime, as the Storm couldn't capitalize on any of its six first half shots.
Just a 1:24 into the second period, however, Lake Erie tied the match up with a goal by Elizabeth Awuzh.
Another Storm goal just six minutes later off the foot of Robin Hames gave it a 2-1 lead.
The Cardinals weren't able to make-good on any of their 11 shots in the second period and ended up dropping the contest, 2-1.
Saginaw Valley held a 20-13 overall edge in shots and 10-6 advantage in shots on goal.
With the loss, SVSU falls to 4-8-1 overall and 2-7 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie improves to 4-7-1 in 2013 with a 3-3-1 mark in conference play.
The Cardinals have a week off until they host Northwood University on Friday, Oct. 25 in a 2:00 pm contest.
