SVSU Women's Soccer Falls to Michigan Tech, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to Michigan Tech 2-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match on Friday (Oct. 11).

The Cardinals started the game off strong, but could not capitalize on their shots until late in the half. 

Freshman Marci Northuis scored an un-assisted goal in the 37th minute to put SVSU up 1-0.  The goal was Northuis' third in the last three games.

The 1-0 score would take the teams in to halftime.

Michigan Tech would equalize the score with a quick goal just two minutes in to the second half.  The 1-1 score would last until the 69th minute when the Huskies struck again to secure the 2-1 win.

Saginaw Valley would be out-shot in the game by a margin of 16-11, but held the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.

SVSU falls to 4-6-1 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC after the defeat, while Michigan Tech improves to 7-2-1 and remains unbeaten at 4-0-1 in conference play.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday (Oct 13) as they take on Northern Michigan University.  Kickoff is set for noon.
