Women's Soccer Edges Panthers, 3-2

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Ohio Dominican in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up, 3-2.

The Cardinals started the match off strongly, scoring a goal in the 16th minute.  Presley Tibbetts (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS) crossed a ball in to the box that bouced around until Jennifer Goethals (Rochester, Mich/Rochester HS) got off a solid shot that would deflect off of a Panther defender and get past the goalkeeper.

SVSU would net another goal at the 44:31 mark when Lindsey Arnett (Portage, Mich./Central HS) played a beautiful through ball to Marci Northuis (Muskegon, Mich/Mona Shores HS) who beat the keeper.  The 2-0 lead would take the squads in to halftime. 

Ohio Dominican would score its first goal of the second half off of a bouncing ball in the box that beat Kailey Naumcheff (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central HS). 

Saginaw Valley would capitalize on another great ball from Arnett, who found Ashley Henderson (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard Catholic HS) for the goal.  The 3-1 lead would last just minutes, as the Panthers would score in the 78th minute, decreasing the lead to just one.

The one goal difference brougt out the best in both teams, but the score would stay the same.

The Cardinals improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC after the win, while the Panthers drop to 5-4-2 and 2-3-1 in conference play.

SVSU is back in action when it travels to the Upper Peninsula to face Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 11) and Northern Michigan on Sudnay (Oct. 13).
