Women's Soccer Defeats Tiffin 1-0 In Double-Overtime

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team traveled to Tiffin University on Sunday (Sept. 15) for a regional matchup.  SVSU came out victorious in the contest, winning 1-0 in double-overtime.

It was the third-consecutive contest that the Cardinals competed in that was extended into double-overtime.

SVSU pushed the envelope all afternoon, posting 11 shots in each of the first two periods compared to 10 total for the Dragons.  The Cardinals out-shot Tiffin 7-0 in both overtime periods, with their seventh and final shot being the dagger.

Freshman Jennifer Goethals (Rochester, Mich./Rochester HS) found the back of the net at the 101:58 mark in the contest, making her first-career goal in a Cardinal uniform a game-winning blow.  Junior Shelby Thompson (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) had the assist on the goal.

Goethals had 10 shots in the match, five on goal.  Junior Kelsey Burt (Marengo, Ohio/Highland HS) added seven shots.

Saginaw Valley had 29 shots in the contest comapred to only 10 for Tiffin.  The shots-on-goal ratio ended up 15-4 in favor of the Cardinals.

Sophomore Kailey Naumcheff (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS) stopped all four shots she faced on goal.

The Cardinals (2-1-1) return to action on Friday, as they travel to Malone University (9/20) for a 3 pm match before taking-on Walsh University on Sunday (9/22) in a 1 pm contest.
