Cardinals Fall in GLIAC Championship Game

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to Grand Valley State University, 4-0, in the championship game of the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.  The Cardinals advanced to the championship game after defeating Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon (Nov. 2), 4-2 in penalty kicks.

The Cardinals would find themselves in an early hole after the Lakers opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a quick rebound goal. Grand Valley would keep the pressure on Saginaw Valley adding three more goals over the next 23 minutes as they ran out to a 4-0 lead.  From there the Cardinals would be forced to go on the offensive attack, but would be unable to put anything in the net as they fell by a final score of 4-0 to Grand Valley.

Lexie Brisson-Fast (Ferndale, Mich.) would lead the Cardinals with three shots on goal for the afternoon.

Defender Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.), midfielder Megan Morad (South Lyon, Mich.) and defender Kristen Tomczyk (Lapeer, Mich./East HS) were all named to the 2012 GLIAC Women's Soccer All-Tournament team.

The Cardinals finish the regular season with a 10-4-5 record overall and now will wait to see if they are selected for the 2012 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament field Monday night (Nov. 5) at 7:30 PM.  Fans can view that selection show online by clicking here.
